Volkswagen Touareg A Perfect SUV – Perfect Touring Vehicle |
Volkswagen Touareg came with air suspension because anything apart from
comfort mode meant unpleasant thuds and even more unpleasantness to the
stomach. Touareg always eager to shed weight at the slightest hint of
throttle. The Eight speed triptronic transmission is a good Ol’torque
converter. Shifts are seamless and hardly you can tell it is playing
with eight cogs as you hurl down the highway. With the suspension in
Sports mode, Touareg had no complaints going around.
The Touareg’s air suspension comes with lift capability. Off-road
will give a total of 305 mm of clearance like in Audi Q7. More important
than the lift is locking option. When the lift is locked Touareg will
not hunker down to regular clearance as the speed increases, this is
very useful since the mud tracks warranted more speed and momentum.
Touareg made it up some steep climbs without any help. It gives you more
comfort and confidence when you park the Touareg on a cliff for a nice
shot of the view, the grip is awesome. Definitely Touareg impresses
folks who want to try a Jungle trip, high ground clearance and quiet
engine are so important when you are stalking wild life in the jungle.
Rocks are no problem to Touareg but slush can be an issue because of
road biased tyres. Shifts in Touareg are immediate, smooth and jerk
free. Breaks are effective. With the suspension on the comfort, the ride
is perfect.
The Touareg cabin would rarely jiggle and all you hear are those
faint thuds. Touareg is as heavy as Q7 but it shifts and balances way
better. The steering for its feel is still big may be can cause
discomfort to shoulders in long drives. Electronics could have been
better. The tyres were not meant for snow. All the Touareg needed was, a
low range button, no studded tyres, no snow chain. Spending good money
over an expensive SUV and thinking of a place where SUV should go and
then to wait for a Bolero to tow-out this SUV, Can’t imagine.
Apart from steep climb and thick snow the Touareg performance was
brilliant. It handled plains, raises, rocks, snow and melted-ice.
Touareg is perfect machine in all treacherous conditions. It is dynamic ,
comfortable and gets you decent mileage of 8.5 kmpl. It may not be the
best thing off-road with those tyres and ‘ll miss the low range
sometimes. Touareg does a lot more than regular premium sports utility
will expected to come at a price of 52 Lakhs approximately(vary
according to city)
