Does Your Wordpress Blog Make Money?

Who here is making good money from their WordPress blog?  We're all aware by now that WordPress is the easiest way to build a website, but I was wondering how many of you actually make good money? And when I say "good money" I mean enough to enhance your existing lifestyle. I'm not talking about a dollar or two from AdSense per day.

I began to learn that very few of them made a lot of money. I don't think I met one person that was full-time online or even close. And they said it was their goal.

This is a good topic to discuss - I make money on my websites/blog, but it's only about $40 - $50 a month and is 90% Google Adsense. This is what I've built up to over 3 years. Do I spend every waking moment working on my websites? No. So hard work and determination are part of how much one can earn.

Getting there first in Google is another big advantage, especially for topics that become in demand. For instance, Naveen launched his Hindupad blog and it was a relatively uncharted territory for search engines. He got his content ranked and steamrolled followers in. He was at the right place at the right time doing the right thing.

So here's the key points I think to earning money:

* In demand topic.
* Quality content/products for that topic.
* Ability to build a community and relate to others.
* Hard work/determination to build, create, and continuously improve.
* Getting there first in content and search rankings. Google gives big weight to older sights with original content.

If you have a full time job and a family like me, it's going to be difficult to earn a full-time income from a website/blog due to time constraints. It's possible, just very difficult. That doesn't stop me from trying though with different websites and ventures. One day, something is going to "stick".

I do believe it's less about the system you choose and more about how you execute and knowing how to reach your target audience. People who fail with either platform fail not because they chose the wrong platform, but because they struggle with building an effective website that engages their target visitor. And some people don't even set a target visitor. They just write to write while hoping people will just begin following. You really do need a strategy and can't just haphazardly put up a site with no clear focus.
