Mahindra Korando – Mahindra Ssangyong Future SUV
Mahindra Ssangyong Korando is the perfect amalgamation of a luxury sedan and a sturdy light SUV. Ssangyong’s Korando is in Korean markets for more than two decades. After some generations it has been redesigned in Europe by world known Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. Mahindra acquired Ssangyong in Feb 2011 , both the firms have high expectations on Korando and anticipating that Korando going to be the game changer in Indian SUV market. After Korando they are going to launch Rexton II. Korando is the first vehicle that was built on Monocoque frame by Ssangyong its history of 56 years.

Korando is not huge or bulky as any SUV buyer in India expects. But its sporty and muscular looks keep it in the SUV class. It got more Urban SUV style looks , of course this is the next generation of SUVs that are going to create ripples in Indian market. It got a small wheel base of 2650mm. Flared wheel arches that enclose 17 inch tyres. A high beltline, small headlights, semicircular grille looks pretty small , with black mesh and bulky bonnet looks menacing. The front face of Korando is quite bulged and heavy. Body color mirrors with turn indicators, diamond shaped fog lamps and meshed air dam suits the overall aggressive look. A chin that is under the nose of SUV gives the nose a tame look. I think Scorpio has a good nose than Korando. This Korean SUV is going to be the first launch in partnership of Mahindra and Ssangyong , I think it should be more impressive . I strongly believe that Korando should shed its outdated look.

Interiors of Korando are pretty straight forward and logical not so plush and airy as Fortuner. The plastic dashboard fit and finish are far better than any other Mahindra vehicle we have in the market. Other highlights of the cabin are luxury seat layouts, smart key , cruise control and heated sets for driver and passengers. But Indian SUV buyer expects alteast seven people are accommodated inside but Korando can get in only five comfortably. Safety features like electronic stability program that reduces the risk and emergency stop signal that glows when you suddenly stop the vehicle. The steering isn’t particularly accurate and there’s a mushy area around the straight-ahead position.

Korando comes with 2.2 turbo diesel engine , capable of 173 bhp at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 36O Nm at 2000-1000 rpm. As a front-wheel-driving car, the engine is placed over the drivewheels, vastly improving its traction in hazardous conditions like snow, mud, and gravel. Korando is expected to come with six -speed automatic transmission which is a good thing. This diesel SUV on Indian roads expected to give a mileage of 12 -15 kmpl.

Market expecting Korando could start at around Rs 15lakh and undercut rivals like the Captiva, Fortuner and Santa Fe.
